ERC suspends WESM operations
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) temporarily suspended the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) starting March 26, 2026 as part of government measures during the national energy emergency declared by President Marcos through Executive Order No. 110 dated 24 March 2026.
This move was implemented to help manage rising fuel costs and prevent sudden spikes in electricity prices caused by global supply disruptions. During the suspension, electricity prices are no longer set by real-time market trading but are instead guided by regulated pricing to ensure stability. During this period, the power system will operate under Special Operating Guidelines (SOG) issued by the DOE, which prioritize optimal dispatch of available renewable energy resources, conserve critical fuel inventories amid global fuel supply disruptions, and provide an operational framework for system dispatch.
Overall, the suspension aims to protect consumers while maintaining a reliable and continuous power supply across the country.
